In the context of climate change and the growing need to adapt the use of water in the different French basins, several public territorial basin organizations (EPTP) have launched or are in the process of launching so-called "HMUC" studies (Hydrology, Environment, Uses and Climate)”. These studies aim to improve knowledge concerning water resources and their uses in a territory. They take into account climate change [climate] and its impacts on water [hydrology], as well as water demands for human activities such as the drinking water supply and/or agriculture [uses] and for ecosystems [environment].

As part of the LIFE REVERS'EAU project – Identifying the impacts of climate change on water resource management and implementation of appropriate tools (2023-2027), the EPTB Eaux et Vilaine is implementing an adaptation plan to sustain all water uses in the Vilaine catchment in the long term, with particular attention paid to the south-eastern part of the basin, including the Don, the Chère and the Isac sub-basins.

In this context, actions are planned with scientific (improvement of knowledge), operational (adaptation actions), ecological (preservation of aquatic environment) and societal (sustainability of uses) objectives.

INRAE ​​contributes to the scientific component of this action plan. This involves examining the data and methodologies available to set up a relevant and robust modelling framework, making it possible to assess the vulnerability of the study region to the risk of droughts based on its hydro-climatic conditions and water uses.
