Coordinated by NOVIMET in partnership with IRSTEA, the project aims to improve flood risk management. IRSTEA's objective? To adapt its forecasting models and tools to the urban and climatic context of São Paulo. The FASEP project was officially launched on December 3, 2013 at the Hydraulic Technology Center Foundation.

Particularly well suited to urban flood forecasting, the HYDRIX radar can be installed in the heart of the most urbanized areas (building rooftops, water towers, etc.), and therefore vulnerable to flooding. In partnership with NOVIMET, researchers at IRSTEA Aix-en-Provence center have been working on the development of the RAINPOL platform, as part of their earlier work. This tool provides real-time flow forecasts based on rainfall data acquired by radar. For this project, the researchers will have to adapt and parameterize the existing hydrological models (GR) to the urban context of São Paulo in order to optimize its operation.
