Climate Change impact on Alpine hydrology and their implications for water resources management

Climate change has caused surface temperatures in the Alps to rise by 2.9 °C compared to pre-industrial levels—more than 1.6 °C above the global average. This warming is altering hydroclimatic variables and signals a shift in hydrological patterns, characterised by increased winter streamflow and more frequent summer droughts. These changes have far-reaching implications for water resources management across the Alpine region, including hydropower generation. In this presentation, Dr. Tobias Wechsler will present his current research, which focuses on assessing climate change impacts, including technical, legal, and ecological dimensions. At the heart of this work is the provision of data to support decision-making processes that foster sustainable water resource management.
